Root Chakra: Time To Hibernate
Happy New Year!
I genuinely pray that each of you are experiencing deep rest, more ease, and lots of love as we begin the new year. May you be gentle with yourself during this time of hibernation.
Those whom I’ve met with already this year, know that I’m switching things up. We are going on a journey together, and I am so excited! Each month, we are focusing on a new chakra until we can fully integrate and align each of them. It is a beautiful journey to begin at the top of the year and it feels potent for each of us!
Chakras (or karkar as our Kemetic ancestors referred to them) are energy centers along our spine that correspond to different needs/functions of the human being. First up is the root chakra, which deals with survival. When balanced, it facilitates a sense of safety, security, stability, and grounded-ness. It is the basis of all other chakras and the baseline to total wellbeing.
Associations of Root Chakra:
Color: Red
Element: Earth
Body Parts: Feet, Legs, Bones, Spine
Ways of Working With Root Chakra:
Foods: Root Vegetables (sweet potatoes, parsnips, carrots, rutabaga, turnip), Red Fruits
Herbs : Comfrey, Liquorice
Oils: Patchouli, Cypress, Vetivert
Crystals: Red Jasper, obsidian, red jade, smoky quartz
The average person is disconnected from their root chakra and experiences feeling unsafe, unstable, and ungrounded in their everyday life. In essence, they aren’t present in their bodies which ultimately means they aren’t fully present for this human experience because to be human is to have a body. When you take the time to focus on your root chakra, you allow yourself to move slow. You allow yourself to take up space. And most importantly, you nurture the deepest aspects of you. In essence, you hibernate and go within.
For the past month, I’ve honored the call to hibernate and have been allowing myself to move much slower than normal. This might seem contradictory especially considering it’s the new year and we’ve been programmed to believe we should be striving towards goals. But following the lead of nature and my body, I am recognizing that I’m in full alignment with the flow of life. If you listen to the still small voice of your soul, I’m sure you’ll hear a similar call.
What this has looked like for me, is a lot of softness, rest, introspection and presence. I’ve found myself indulging in activities that feed my soul, quiet my mind, and nurture my body such as: yoga, FLOAT Therapy, spiritual baths, foot massages, journaling, eating soups, taking naps, going on walks, dancing, and reading.
We often think that our stability will come from an external source (more money, a home, etc.) but it’s actually the internal state of security within our bodies that provide this sense of safety. I know it takes courage to go within and look at yourself, but if you’re willing, there’s no better time than now.
It’s time to know yourself on a deeper level, experience more harmony in your life, and restore balance to your temple (physically, energetically, spiritually, and emotionally). Join me for the journey home to yourself! It’s time to hibernate and get intimate with our root chakra. It’s time to feel safe and at ease.
Wear more red, meditate with your crystals, and touch the Earth this month.

The School of Life
After 4 years of homeschooling my son, I’ve been moved to start a homeschool co-op. The School of Life is a DMV based collective of parents and their children who are seeking to do things differently. We understand that the children we have been given the pleasure of raising deserve a new learning environment, and together we are creating one that fosters liberation, creativity, innovation, awareness, and spirituality.
