A Mother’s Day Reflection: What Will Your Legacy Be?
Hey mama!
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about my legacy. What do I want to be remembered for? How will I shift things for my bloodline? What do I want to pass on to my children and future descendants? Which is timely given we are beginning our journey with the throat chakra whose main focus is the creation of that which will remain long after your death. In other words: your legacy.
Saying this immediately brings to mind Abraham and the twelve tribes of Israel from the Bible (note: I am not religious; I am a seeker of truth who is able to find sparks of it hidden any and everywhere). In brief, God made a promise to Abraham to make his name great and that he would be blessed as well as a blessing. I can only imagine how Abrahma felt when he received this information. He was old, had no children, and his wife was barren. But not knowing the “how” did not stop him from believing and he lived the rest of his life in faith that God would fulfill his promise. Long story short, God held true to his word (as He always does) but the blessings weren’t received until 3 generations later…
There’s a belief in many indigenous cultures that implies our life influences 7 generations before and 7 generations after us. How we choose to live really does matter, but we may not see the direct results in our lifetime. I believe that as we heal and better ourselves, we heal past and future generations. We cause a ripple effect that influences those closest to us and positively shifts the trajectory of our bloodline and legacy. As a mother, you hold the keys to generational healing.
Before continuing, I want to add that healing doesn’t have to be hard and heavy. It can look like dance. It can look like joy. It can look like play. The tools I leverage with myself and others include movement, meditation, mantra and community and many of you who have worked with me can attest to the fact that joy is always in the mix.
As you celebrate yourself this upcoming Mother’s day (and every day in-between) reflect upon how you choose to mother? How can you live today that will better position your descendants for tomorrow? I’m working on a legacy of ease, love, empowerment, nervous system regulation, Spirit connection, ancestral and familial bonds, and lots of harmony and balance. I know that I must find and embody these things within myself first and it requires self-love.
This weekend I’ll celebrate myself by continuing to be disciplined in my spiritual practices (prayer, meditation, alter work, ect.), I’ll pamper myself, and I’ll rest in gratitude knowing that my future descendants will have access to a form of generational wealth that far exceeds monetary gain (though they’ll get that too). I’m passing on a richness in spirit and tools for access to a vibrant inner world.
