Happy Thanksgiving

Hey mama,

I’m not just another brand in your email trying to capitalize off this holiday. I’m not selling you anything. I don’t have any discount codes. I’m simply here with a reminder for you.

Things don’t have to be perfect for you to be grateful. In fact, when you become grateful for what already is, you realize things are already perfect just as they are. Don’t let the stresses of family, cooking, buying, or gifting distract you from how blessed you are.

If you don’t currently have a gratitude practice, I encourage you to start one today. And don’t come up with an excuse for why you can’t. Make it happen. Just do it. Being grateful doesn’t come easy at first. We’ve been programmed to see and dwell on the negative. But just like you strengthen your muscles at the gym, you have to strengthen your gratitude muscle. You have to train yourself to be optimistic. You have to train yourself to see the light. You have to train yourself to find the blessings.

I have journaled every day for the past 6 years and it started with gratitude. In 2018, all I wrote was 3 things I was grateful for each day. That’s it. 3 things! Now my journal entries look like a page full (sometimes more) of “thank yous”. I’ve developed an appreciation for EVERYTHING! Even the seemingly bad things because I know there’s something good in them too. You are not a victim to life. And I know this sounds cliche, but everything is working in your favor. Life is inherently good. Strengthen your gratitude muscle and let life be good. Intentionally direct your focus to the good…over and over and over again.

Last year, I gifted everyone in my family a hand-crafted joy jar to encourage them to start looking for the good. For a whole year they’ve been on the hunt for joy moments each day. It seems so easy, but this small gesture has changed many of their perspectives on life.

Let’s all make a gratitude list today. Here’s mine so far (feel free to share yours with me!):

  1. Breath

  2. Mobility in my body

  3. Meditation because it makes me feel calm and clear

  4. Family & Ancestors

  5. My son

  6. My life- I love it!

  7. The courage to pursue a dream

  8. Music

  9. All of my clients- past, present, and future

  10. Another day!

I really could go on and on. There is sooooo much to be grateful for. And if you struggle to find something, think smaller. Did you wake up today? Did you have food to eat? Do you have shelter? Are you living in a war zone? Is your child healthy? Be grateful. Let yourself experience goodness. Let yourself live a full life. Practice gratitude and watch how life starts getting good!

Forever grateful,

Kayla <3
